Preserving Heritage with Casa Lotos: A Digital Tribute to the Wild Spirit of Chihuahua

About Casa Lotos

Casa Lotos is a premium Mexican spirit brand dedicated to the art of Sotol. Unlike tequila or mezcal, Sotol is made from the wild-grown Dasylirion plant, commonly known as the “Desert Spoon.” Indigenous to the arid landscapes of Chihuahua, Mexico, these plants take approximately 15 years to mature. Casa Lotos honors this slow growth by using sustainable harvesting methods that leave root systems intact for future regrowth. The result is a clean, smooth, and complex spirit that captures the integrity of the desert.

Combining Century-Old Traditions with Modern Sustainable Technology

The challenge for a heritage brand like Casa Lotos is translating a tactile, artisanal process into a compelling digital experience. With a history rooted in the Ruelas family—fourth-generation master distillers—the brand needed a web presence that felt as rich and authentic as the spirit itself. Codeflies worked to showcase how Casa Lotos bridges the gap between the 1930s prohibition era and today’s eco-conscious market. The platform focuses on the brand’s commitment to solar technology, eco-packaging, and a profound respect for the land.

"Sotol is an untamed wild child born of sunlight and soil. Our goal was to create a digital home that reflects the purity and resilience of the Desert Spoon."

Our Project Challenges

1

Hiring the right team

Hiring the right people with just the right skills and experience in food e-commerce was essential to fulfill the nitty-gritty of the requirement and achieve desired results. Our team, with complete detailing, selected people that were not just experts in their respective fields but also highly professional and responsive to the client’s needs.

2

Reducing time to market
In order to handle competitive pressure, it was crucial to reduce the app’s time to market. To meet the need, we placed our team onsite to help bridge the gap in understanding the requirement and connect cross-functional teams to brainstorm the solution while keeping in mind the current legacy system and its limitations.

3

Offering high personalization
In order to make people order from the KFC food delivery application in place of aggregator apps, it was critical to double down on the customer experience. To achieve the same, we offered a high level of personalization in the app and made it easy for customers to view their order history and make payment through multiple gateway options.
1

Digital Storytelling for an Ancient Process

How do you explain 15 years of plant growth in a few seconds? We focused on a clean web layout that guides the user through the journey from the rocky slopes of Chihuahua to the final pour. By using high-quality imagery and concise text, we made the "Wild Harvested" message the center of the user experience.

2

Highlighting Technical Purity

Sotol is unique because it thrives without pesticides or fertilizers. We built specific sections to educate the consumer on why this leads to a cleaner spirit with less sugar. The web architecture was designed to handle educational content without making the page feel cluttered or heavy.

3

Honoring a Distilling Legacy

The Ruelas family were pioneers in obtaining legal permits in the 1930s. We created a "Meet Our Maker" section that acts as a digital archive, combining family history with the innovative, sustainable technology they use today, such as solar power and eco-friendly packaging.
